– La temporada WRC 1988 es la 16ª temporada que se disputa el Campeonato Mundial bajo normativas de la FIA
HITOS / INCIDENCIAS
– En el campeonato de Pilotos y en el de Constructores WRC 1988, al menos debe tomar la salida en una carrera fuera de Europa para para ser Campeón. En constructores además hay que participar en ocho carreras para optar al título.

SISTEMA DE PUNTUACIÓN (CONSTRUCTORES) 1977-…
Desde 1977, para el Campeonato de Constructores, el reparto de puntos se hace de la siguiente manera; Suma de la posición general y la posición de grupo, los puntos de ambas categorías se añaden al recuento final. Solo el coches mejor situado de cada fabricante puntúan, incluso si un coche en una posición más baja hubiera ganado más puntos. Además solo los coches que finalizan en el top-10 general puntúan. La posición general otorga los siguientes puntos; 1º – 10 puntos, 2º – 9, 3º – 8, 4º – 7, 5º – 6, 6º – 5, 7º – 4, 8º – 3, 9º – 2, 10º – 1. La posición en el grupo otorga los siguientes puntos: 1º – 8 puntos, 2º – 7, 3º – 6, 4º – 5, 6º – 3, 7º 2, 8º – 1.
